In the United States, there is currently a shortage of technicians in almost every trade: plumbers, electricians, carpenters, and HVAC technicians are all in short supply. Recent statistics indicate that there are only about 260,000 HVAC technicians in the workforce, about 80,000 short of what’s actually needed to answer all the calls. In addition, the industry is losing HVAC technicians at a rate of about 8% each year, or about 21,000 techs. If this pace continues, there will only be about 50,000 HVAC professionals in 2033.
This trend must be reversed. As our climate changes and temperatures get even more extreme (we’ve only had two days under 32˚ in February this year!), HVAC technology will get more and more critical to our health and wellness.
